Ahhh, brand strategy. One of my favorite topics of conversation (along with college football, my newest coffee finds, and which cheeses are best in queso … but that’s beside the point). As much as I love talking brand strategy, it can’t be the only one in the conversation. Project management must be included with it.
As you know from spending any amount of time with me, I firmly believe brand strategy is the most important part of growing your business. But it doesn’t stop there — project management supports that growth. They go hand in hand like pepper jack and mozzarella to make a perfect combo.
Getting away from the food analogies (you seriously don’t want me to turn this into a food blog…it would be very short!), let’s put it this way: If you have a strategy with no action, your strategy will never see the light of day in a meaningful way.
(All my entrepreneurs who are “idea people” and have notebooks piled to the ceiling with great ideas know exactly what I’m talking about!)
On the flip side, if you have a ton of action in the form of knee-jerk projects and releasing offers without any strategy to link it to the greater picture, they won’t be as impactful as they could be. They won’t be aligned, cohesive, and in support of the vision you have for your business.
When the two are integrated, a business can tap into its fullest potential. Here are four reasons why they must function together to support your big vision and bring it to life! Let’s dig in!
1. Projects Run More Efficiently
Your brand strategy is just that — it’s a strategic plan of action that will help you gain the clarity and cohesion you need to efficiently reach your goals. When you add in thoughtful and deliberate project management, you’ll have a clear path to achieve those goals.
Not only will the project come together more easily because you can see why you’re doing what you’re doing, you’ll know the “how” and every step to take — cutting out redundancies along the way will move your projects both quickly and successfully. Win win!

2. You Have a Cohesive Marketing Strategy
A key part of project management is marketing. Obviously, the stronger and more aligned your marketing plan is with your central business strategy and goals, the more successful your project will be, whether it’s for a new offer launch or ongoing sales support.
When your marketing is in support of overall brand strategy, it’s going to be cohesive and more impactful for the audience you’re trying to reach, period end of story.

3. Your Team Has a Purpose
There’s nothing worse than starting a project, only to realize halfway through that it doesn’t make sense or align at all with the overall goals of your business. It’s like putting sugar in your queso. Even I know you don’t do that! All it does is create confusion and frustration (and sadness because, well, no queso).
Integrating your brand strategy with your project management will allow your team to understand exactly how they’re contributing to the big picture and take ownership of its success.
4. Your Audience Trusts You ($$)
Just like your team could get confused, frustrated, and turned off without a clear direction, so will your audience if you throw disjointed offers their way. This fragmentation won’t bode well for you. Having your brand strategy and project management in place and working together will help your audience trust you. They’ll see you have a plan and you’re doing what you say you will.
In short, your target audience feels the alignment because everything they experience from your business speaks to them in a meaningful way. Everywhere they turn, they see the same message from you. This cohesion shows them you’re a trustworthy expert and they feel safe investing in your support.

Brand strategy and project management should always work together in support of one another. One can’t supersede the other or take all the time and attention. They need to have equal thought, energy, and support as they come together to create a vision and tangible plan of action. Strategy guides the marketing … marketing supports the strategy.

When you’re ready to take your business to the next level, make sure you have both a brand strategy and branding that encompasses your values and goals.
