In Part 1 of this blog series, we tackled 3 of the most common mistakes I see business owners making when using ChatGPT. But after I wrote that article, I got to thinking … I can’t just stop at 3 tips. Y’all know I could geek out about ChatGPT all day, and I’m passionate about empowering other business owners to tap into the true power of this AI tool, so why not keep it going and write another article? So, if you found the first round helpful, buckle up because we’re about to dig into a few more simple mistakes that could be holding you back from fully harnessing the power of ChatGPT.
So, let’s dig a little deeper in this Part 2 article and dive into 3 *more* of the most common ChatGPT missteps I see, and how to fix them.
3 More ChatGPT Mistakes … And How to Fix Them
ChatGPT Mistake #4: You’re Not Sharing Feedback and Important Information
Think of ChatGPT as a super-intelligent, ever-learning partner in your content creation process. Now, imagine if you stopped communicating with your content partner. You never shared any feedback, never discussed new offers or services, and didn’t communicate any updates as your business evolves … yet (here’s the kicker) you still expected this person to write stellar content with little to no information. Sounds like a recipe for disaster, right? That’s exactly what happens when you don’t give ChatGPT feedback on its outputs or keep it in the loop about new developments in your business.
Why this matters:
Feedback is how we grow, right? Well, the same goes for ChatGPT. And when I say “feedback,” I don’t just mean tweaking words here and there. That’s definitely important. But I’m also talking about ensuring ChatGPT’s outputs evolve as your business does. Without your insights, ChatGPT’s content won’t fully represent the latest and greatest of what your brand offers, leaving you with stale content that doesn’t connect with your audience’s needs. It’s like having a conversation where only one person is doing all the talking – it just doesn’t work.
How to Fix It:
After every piece of content ChatGPT creates, take a moment to review it. If something’s off, tell ChatGPT exactly what didn’t hit the mark and how it can do better next time. For example, you can say things like “I would never say [insert word or phrase]. I would say something like [insert something that sounds more like you].” or “I never start my emails with “Hello.” I always start them with “Hey”. Or if the whole style sounds off, you can say something more broad, like “That doesn’t sound like me at all. Please take a moment to reflect on my voice and try again.” As you continue to share feedback, ChatGPT will keep learning and refining as you use it, helping it to get closer to your sound and style.
Quick tip: Remember, ChatGPT is artificial intelligence, so don’t expect it to be perfect. While it can be a powerhouse tool for your content creation, it’s never going to hit the nail on the head in the same way that a skilled, strategic human copywriter can. So the goal with ChatGPT is to get your content 80 – 90% of the way there, then copy it over to a Word Doc or Google Doc and you can give it the final polish!
And don’t forget to keep ChatGPT in the loop. Got a new product or a shift in your brand message? Fill ChatGPT in! Sharing this information helps to ensure ChatGPT can remain an aligned, effective member of your team.

ChatGPT Mistake #5: You’re Not Getting the Most Out of Your Content
Tapping into ChatGPT for just blog posts or the occasional social media caption? Then, my friend, you’re barely scratching the surface of what this tool can do for your business. It’s like having a kitchen stocked with gourmet ingredients and only making toast. Sure, toast is great, but what about the endless possibilities of meals you could be creating? ChatGPT isn’t just a one-trick pony; it’s a versatile tool that, when used creatively, can help repurpose, refresh, and extend the life and reach of your existing content across multiple platforms and formats.
Why this matters:
Imagine each piece of content you create as an investment. Every blog post, email, or social media update has the potential to serve your business in multiple ways, reaching wider audiences and reinforcing your brand message. By limiting ChatGPT to creating only one type of content, you’re missing out on maximizing the return on your content investment. Diversifying your content strategy with ChatGPT means more engagement, broader reach, and ultimately, a more robust online presence. It’s about working smarter, not harder, and ensuring every piece of content you produce works overtime for your brand.
How to Fix It:
Start thinking of your content as multi-purpose. That insightful blog post? Break it down into a series of engaging social media posts, an informative email series, or even a script for a video. Use ChatGPT to transform a single piece of content into various formats tailored for different platforms. For example, ask ChatGPT to take key points from a blog article and turn them into an infographic for Instagram or a discussion prompt for LinkedIn. This approach not only saves you time but also keeps your content fresh and engaging across all your marketing channels.

ChatGPT Mistake #6: You’re Not Thinking Outside the Box
So, you’ve got ChatGPT churning out content left and right, but if you’re stopping there, you’re only scratching the surface of what this AI can do for your business. ChatGPT isn’t just a content machine; it’s a multifaceted tool that can analyze, brainstorm, and optimize alongside you.
Think of it this way … it’s like having an extra brain for your business. From diving deep into your marketing analytics to being your brainstorm buddy for your next big idea, ChatGPT is all about making your business life a bit easier. It’s not just about what it can write for you; it’s about how it can think with you to push your business forward.
Why this matters:
In the digital age, understanding your market, refining your strategies, and optimizing your content are not just nice-to-haves; they’re must-dos for staying competitive. ChatGPT can help you dive deep into your marketing efforts, sift through customer feedback for golden insights, test out new ideas in a low-stakes environment, and even audit your content to uncover gaps or opportunities for enhancement.
How to Fix It:
By leveraging ChatGPT beyond content creation, you turn it into a strategic asset that informs your decisions with data-driven insights, sparks creativity, and ensures your content stays fresh and relevant. Here are a few specific ways you can start thinking outside the box — using ChatGPT not just as a writer but as an analyst, a strategist, and a creative partner:
- For Marketing Analysis: Feed ChatGPT your marketing data or campaign results and ask for an analysis. What worked? What didn’t? What patterns does it see?
- For Client/Customer Feedback: Give ChatGPT access to customer reviews, survey results, or social media comments. Ask it to identify common themes or sentiments, which can guide your strategy and improve customer satisfaction.
- For Idea Generation: Stuck on what to do next? Pitch a scenario to ChatGPT and ask for ideas. Whether it’s for a product launch, a marketing campaign, or a customer appreciation event, ChatGPT can help brainstorm.
- For Content Review: Have ChatGPT review your existing content. Ask it to suggest topics that are missing from your portfolio or ways to update and optimize what you already have.
Alright y’all … I included a bonus tip in Part 1 of this blog mini-series, so who am I to break a tradition? Take a look at one of my top ChatGPT tips below.
ChatGPT Bonus Tip: Talk to ChatGPT Like It’s Truly a Member of your Team
Here’s a little nugget of wisdom that might just flip the way you see ChatGPT: Start treating it like a member of your team sitting right across the desk from you. Yes, it’s AI, but the more humanely you interact with it, the more you’ll get out of it. If you catch something in its output that doesn’t quite sit right with you, don’t just shrug and move on. Pause and think about how you’d communicate this to a human collaborator. How would you explain what’s missing or what needs to change?
This approach does a couple of things. First, it helps you refine your prompts and feedback, making them more detailed and clear. Second, it turns ChatGPT into a more dynamic tool that’s continually learning and adapting to your business’s unique voice and needs. And third, it encourages a mindset shift — from seeing ChatGPT as a mere tool to viewing it as a collaborative partner.
So, next time you’re typing out a prompt or feedback, imagine you’re explaining it to someone who’s eager to learn but doesn’t know your business as intimately as you do. Use clear, descriptive language. If ChatGPT delivers something off-target, be specific about what didn’t work and why. And if you’re brainstorming or looking for ideas, describe the scenario as if you were bouncing ideas off a colleague. “Hey, we’re thinking about launching a new product that solves [problem]. What are some creative ways we could introduce it to our audience?”
And there you have it, friends — a deeper dive into making ChatGPT work harder and smarter for you. We’ve unpacked a few more missteps to watch out for, but more importantly, we’ve shared how to sidestep them and truly embrace the potential of this AI tool.
ChatGPT, like any tool in our entrepreneurial kit, is about enhancing our efforts, not diminishing the value of our human touch. It’s here to amplify our creativity, not replace it. So, by treating ChatGPT as an extension of our team — giving it clear directions, involving it in our strategic thinking, and yes, even chatting with it like it’s one of us — we open up new avenues for efficiency and innovation in our businesses.
Remember, the journey with ChatGPT is as much about exploring new possibilities as it is about refining our approach. It’s an ongoing conversation, a partnership that evolves as we do. So keep those lines of communication open, stay curious, and let’s continue to push the boundaries of what we can achieve together.
